UNION 3, MICHIGAN STATE 1: Troy Grosenick made 20 saves and Union (25-7-7) won its first Division I hockey tournament game, beating Michigan State (19-16-4) in the first round of the East Regional at Bridgeport, Conn.

The top-seeded Dutchmen scored in each of the first two periods for a 2-0 lead and Grosenick took care of the rest.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

DUKE: Duke expects freshman guard Austin Rivers to decide next week whether he will enter the NBA draft.

A team spokesman said Rivers will discuss his future plans with his family this weekend, and an announcement on his future is expected next week.

DUQUENSE: Ron Everhart has been fired as coach.

Everhart spent six seasons with the Dukes, went 99-89, and took the program to postseason play three times. But questions began to surface this week when three members of the team — including sophomore point guard T.J. McConnell, the team’s best overall player — announced intentions to transfer.

MINNESOTA: The NCAA granted injured forward Trevor Mbakwe a sixth season of eligibility. Now it’s up to Mbakwe to decide if he wants to take it.

The 6-foot-8 Mbakwe hasn’t said if he will return next season after rehabbing a torn ligament in his right knee.
