MEDFORD, Mass. – Caitlin Hynes scored six of her 24 points in overtime to help fifth-seeded Bowdoin defeat fourth-ranked Tufts 65-54 in the quarterfinals of the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Saturday at Cousens Gymnasium.

Sabrina Cote scored 11 points and Leah Rubega had nine points and 12 rebounds for the Polar Bears (20-5), who will face Colby in a semifinal at Amherst, Mass., on Saturday.

Julia Baily and Kate Barnosky combined for 33 points for the Jumbos (20-5).

Hynes hit a pair of free-throws in overtime to start a 7-0 run that gave the Polar Bears a 59-52 lead with 2:28 left. They outscored the Jumbos 15-4 in the extra period.

 

BATES 70, WILLIAMS 63: Lauren Yanofsky and Allie Beaulieu each scored 18 points as sixth-seeded Bates (14-11) toppled No. 3 Williams (18-7) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Williamstown, Mass.

The Ephs scored first in the second half to go up 38-32, but the Bobcats answered with a 22-3 run to take a 54-41 lead with 12:58 remaining.

Yanofsky also had nine rebounds and Annie Burns added 12 points and seven rebounds.

 

USM 58, EASTERN CONN. STATE 57: Curran Leighton gave the Huskies (18-7, 10-4 Little East) a three-point lead with a layup with one minute remaining, and they held off the Warriors (17-8, 10-4 LEC) at Gorham.

Leighton had 21 points, including 14 in the second half, and also had nine rebounds.

UNE 73, NICHOLS 49: Kelley Paradis had 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead the Nor’easters (20-5, 11-2 Commonwealth Coast) past the Bison (12-12, 5-8) at Dudley, Mass.

Margo Russell added 15 points and seven rebounds for UNE, and Eden Cianciolo pulled down 11 rebounds.

 

BINGHAMTON 72, MAINE 62: Erica Carter scored 22 points and the Bearcats (10-18, 6-9 America East) took control with a 14-2 run with just over seven minutes left to beat the Black Bears (8-19, 4-11) at Vestal, N.Y.

Maine was led by Tanna Ross with 12 points and Samantha Wheeler with 10 points and eight rebounds.

ST. JOSEPH’S 83, MOUNT IDA 61: Tyler Kelley had 31 points to lead the Monks (19-6, 14-4 Great Northeast Athletic Conference) over the Mustangs (15-10, 10-8) at Standish.

Christopher Petzy added 15 points and five rebounds, and Alberto Rue had 14 points and four rebounds.

 

EASTERN CONN. STATE 85, USM 62: Nick Nedwick had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead the Warriors (17-8, 9-5 Little East) past the Huskies (2-23, 0-14) at Gorham.

Otis Smith led Southern Maine with 23 points and Luke Pollock chipped in 11.

BATES 80, BOWDOIN 64: Mark Brust scored 14 points and the fourth-seeded Bobcats (14-11) built a 19-point halftime lead and held off the fifth-ranked Polar Bears (13-12) in a NESCAC quarterfinal at Lewiston.

Alex Gallant and Jimmy O’Keefe added 12 points apiece for Bates, which outrebounded the Polar Bears, 44-34.

Bowdoin was paced by Mark Phillips, who scored 18 points to finish his career with 1,001 points. Phillips became the 20th player in school history to top the 1,000-point plateau.

 

NICHOLS 84, UNE 60: Bryan Riley scored 22 points to lead the Bison (14-10, 7-6 Commonwealth Coast) past the visiting Nor’easters (11-13, 7-6).

Anthony Johnson led UNE with 15 points and Marcus Winn scored 12.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

USM 3, HOLY CROSS 2: Kailey Bubier scored her second goal of the game at 2:51 of the third period to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Huskies (11-12-2, 9-10 ECAC East) over the Crusaders (18-4-2, 15-2-2) at Gorham.

Danielle Ward had a goal and two assists for Southern Maine. Katie Paradis had three assists.

 

WILLIAMS 3, BOWDOIN 2: Tracey Ferriter scored the winner for the Ephs (12-10-2, 9-6-1 NESCAC) midway through the third against Bowdoin (11-11-2, 8-7-1) at Williamstown, Mass.

Katherine Pokrass and Jill Campbell each had one goal and one assist for the Polar Bears.

BU 3, MAINE 1: Melissa Anderson scored twice in the second period to lead the Terriers (13-8-12, 9-6-5-3 Hockey East) past the Black Bears (6-19-5, 3-14-3-1) at Boston.

Abby Barton scored in the first period for Maine and Brittany Ott made 37 saves.

COLBY 4, ST. ANSELM 1: Billy Crinnion had three assists and Jim Lemonias made 30 saves to lead the Mules (11-8-4) past the Hawks (12-10-1) at Waterville.

BOWDOIN 5, NEC 2: Jordan Lalor broke a 2-2 tie with 2:30 left in the second period and the Polar Bears (17-5-1, 14-4-1 ECAC/NESCAC) held off the Pilgrims (10-13-2, 6-11-2) at Brunswick.

Ryan Blossom scored twice and Brendan Reich had a goal and an assist for Bowdoin..

 

UNE 6, WESLEYAN 1: Adam Laite scored had two goal and the Nor’easters (3-22) scored three times in the second period to pull away from the Cardinals (7-16) at Biddeford.

Tyler Fleurent, Tim Margiotta and Jake Moscatel each had a goal and an assist for UNE.

 

USM 2, TRINITY 1: Paul Conter scored on an assist from Dan Rautenberg seven seconds into overtime to lift the Huskies (10-12-3, 7-9-3 ECAC East) over the Bantams (14-8-2, 11-6-2) at Gorham.

USM tied the game with 3:03 left in the second when Conter scored a power-play goal.
