The Maine Association of USA Track and Field will hold its indoor championship meet Sunday at the University of Maine’s Memorial Gymnasium. Check-in time begins at 8:30 a.m. and entries close at 10 a.m. Field events begin at 11 a.m., and track events start at 11:30. Age categories are 14-and-under, 15-29 and 30-and-over. In honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, St. Joseph’s College will host a multi-sport event from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday for girls in grades 4-8. Varsity female athletes from the basketball, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, softball, cross country, lacrosse and cheerleading teams will provide instruction in each sport. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Harold Alfond Center. Girls are asked to bring a pair of clean sneakers to wear in the gym. The Maine Lacrosse Officials Association will hold a series of three clinics for those interested in learning to officiate high school boys’ lacrosse games. The clinics will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Feb. 28, March 7 and March 14, with March 21 reserved as a snow date. Attendance at all three dates is required to officiate in the 2010 season. The Morning Hockey Club is looking for players for the upcoming season. The season begins March 3 and runs until mid-November. The club has two sessions: 5:30 to 6:50 a.m. Tuesdays at Family Ice Center in Falmouth, and 7:10 to 8:10 a.m. Thursdays at Portland Ice Arena. The University of Southern Maine will hold softball clinics on Sunday, March 7, for girls in grades 3-8 and on Saturday, March 13, for girls in grades 9-12. Both clinics will be held at the Costello Field House in Gorham and will be divided into morning (9 to 11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (12:30 to 3 p.m.) sessions. Players may choose one session for $30 or both for $50. Discounts of $10 per child will apply for siblings and groups of 10 or more. The Maine Open basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 6-8 and 9-11 will be held March 27-28, with the boys tournament taking place at the UMaine Rec Center in Orono, and the girls’ event being held at Husson University and UMaine.
