The Portland Housing Authority’s board of commissioners announced today that Mark Adelson has been named executive director of the agency.

Adelson has served as the acting executive director since November 2009, when Bruce Loring retired, according to a release from the city. Adelson joined the housing authority in 2004 as deputy executive director. He was responsible for daily operations and general management of the authority, which owns 992 rental apartments and also issues 1,754 housing choice vouchers. Adelson was chosen from among five final candidates, the release said.

Adelson, a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, was the city’s director of Housing and Neighborhood Services from 1987 to 2004.
