A Boston-based medical group has opened an infertility treatment center in South Portland.

Boston IVF has been providing services to Maine men and women for more than 10 years at its Boston center. The new clinic will be the only one of its kind in Maine, the group said, and make the treatments more convenient and less stressful for patients.

Boston IVF The Maine Center, at  778 Main St., opened last week and announced today that it is offering the full range of infertility and reproductive health services for men and women experiencing trouble getting pregnant, ranging from simple drug therapies to in vitro fertilization.

The group’s infertility specialists will continue to see patients in Bangor, Scarborough and Lewiston for services that don’t need to take place in the clinic.

“Women and men struggling to have a baby now have access to expert staff and exceptional facilities, without having to travel hours away from home,” Michael Alper, M.D., medical director of Boston IVF, said in the written announcement.
