Falmouth High senior guard Mancini named boys’ basketball Gatorade player of the year

Stefano Mancini of Falmouth High was selected as the Maine Gatorade boys’ Basketball Player of the Year, it was announced on Thursday.

Mancini, a 6-foot-1 senior guard, averaged 22.8 points a game along with 3.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals. He scored 27 points in the state championship as Falmouth won its first Class B title with a 72-65 overtime win over Camden Hills.

Mancini finished his career with 1,281 points. He maintains an A-minus average in the classroom.

JURISPRUDENCE

USM HOCKEY PLAYERS CHARGED: Four USM hockey players were charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol in Westbrook last Saturday night around 11:30 p.m., according to Westbrook police.

The players are junior Jonathan Rutt, 22, of Scarborough; junior Stephen Wiedler, 23, of Farmingdale, N.Y.; senior Brett Kapteina, 25, of Stamford, Conn.; and sophomore Daniel Rautenberg, 22, of Cape Elizabeth.

Rautenberg also was charged with the sale and use of drug paraphernalia.

The four also will be disciplined by the USM athletic department, said Athletic Director Al Bean.
