SOUTH PORTLAND — A School Department custodian was summonsed for threatening display and carrying a concealed weapon in connection with an incident that took place in the administrative offices Wednesday.

Andrzej Szpara, 53, of North Sebago, was also issued a criminal trespass notice that bars him from school property.

Police said officers were sent to the School Department’s administrative offices around 10:42 a.m. for an incident involving an injured male. Szpara was taken to the hospital for what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury from a folding knife, according to police.

Police said the incident was confined to one office and that no children were present at the time. Police said that other than the injury Szpara sustained and the presence of the knife, no threats were made.

Szpara was listed in satisfactory condition at Maine Medical Center.

He has a court date of May 19.

Steve Doherty, vice president of the South Portland Service Employees Association, confirmed that Szpara is a custodian.

Additional details were not immediately available.
