QUINCY, Mass. — Amber Zablowsky and Julie Bigelow each threw two-hit shutouts to lead the University of New England to a sweep of a Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene on Saturday.

Megan Gauger hit a two-out single and scored on a triple by Casey Brigham in the second inning as the Nor’easters (12-4, 7-1 Commonwealth Coast) won the opener, 1-0.

Ashley Gott went 4 for 4 with two doubles, two runs and one RBI to lead UNE to a 5-0 win over the Lions (2-12, 1-5) in Game 2.

USM, RIC SPLIT: Sarah Deroche threw a five-hitter and Jess Hayden hit a two-run double during a five-run fourth inning to lead the Huskies (4-12, 1-1 Little East) to a 6-3 win over Rhode Island College (12-4, 1-1) in the opener at Gorham.

In the second game, the Anchormen scored the first five runs and held on for a 5-3 win.

TUFTS SWEEPS BOWDOIN: Lauren Coven and Amy Hackett each had a double and single for the Polar Bears (14-7, 1-2 NESCAC), who lost 5-1 and 3-2 against the Jumbos (9-6, 2-1) at Medford, Mass.

Kara Nilan had two hits and scored a run for Bowdoin in the second game.

TRINITY SWEEPS BATES: Kristen Anderson and Katherine Poulos pitched the Bantams (7-7, 3-0 NESCAC) to a 6-4, 4-0 sweep over the Bobcats (2-11, 0-3) at Hartford, Conn.

Leah Maciejewski and Mary Lewis had two hits apiece for Bates in the opener.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS JOHNSON & WALES: Danyelle Shufelt, Jillian Kimball and Natasha Howard had two hits apiece, and Christy Wezowicz pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Monks (17-5, 12-0 GNAC) to a 7-2 win over the Wildcats (3-16, 3-9) in the opener at Standish.

St. Joseph’s completed the sweep with a 9-5 win. Kimball had three hits, and Ellen Neff added two hits, two RBI and two runs.

RIC SWEEPS USM: Tim Schabowski and Kevin Carey each hit a game-winning, two-run homer to lead Rhode Island College (10-4, 2-0 Little East) to a sweep over the Huskies (8-7, 0-2) at Providence, R.I.

In the opener, the Huskies scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take a 5-1 lead before giving up six runs in the bottom half. Mike Eaton, Collin Henry and John Carey each homered for the Huskies.

Southern Maine led 11-3 in Game 2 behind two home runs and four RBI from Henry before giving up seven runs in the eighth inning and three in the ninth to lose, 13-11.

BATES, TUFTS SPLIT: Noah Lynd hit a two-run homer and Karl Alexander pitched a seven-hitter as the Bobcats (10-5, 1-2 NESCAC) won the opener 3-0 at Lewiston.

David Orlowitz’s grand slam in the eighth inning helped the Jumbos (11-3, 2-1) rally from a 5-1 deficit for a 6-5 Game 2 win.

ST. JOSEPH’S, JOHNSON & WALES SPLIT: Todd Keneborus had two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice, and Sam Murray scattered 10 hits to lead the Monks (14-8) to an 11-1 win over the Wildcats (4-18) in Game 2 at Standish.

In the opener, St. Joseph’s scored twice in the seventh to force extra innings, then allowed four runs in the eighth to lose, 7-3.

BOWDOIN, TRINITY SPLIT: Oliver Van Zant pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Dan Hicks hit a two-run homer as Bowdoin (15-4) took a 4-1 win over Trinity (10-3) in the second game at Hartford, Conn.

Matt Ruane had a two-run homer for the Polar Bears in a 5-3 loss in the opener.

MAINE SWEEPS NJIT: The Black Bears (14-13) scored 13 runs in the third inning to win the opener 15-1 and took the second game 8-2 at Newark, N.J.

Joe Mercurio hit a three-run homer and an RBI double in the third-inning rally. Tony Patane added a two-run homer.

E. CONN. STATE 18, USM 13: Grant Albertson had five goals and the Warriors (6-2, 1-0 Little East) beat the Huskies (2-4, 0-1) at Gorham.

Tim Bryant had four goals for USM.

ST. JOSEPH’S 25, GREEN MOUNTAIN 3: Spencer Hunt set a school record with 14 points on six goals and eight assists to lead the Monks (4-4, 1-1 NAC) past the Eagles (0-2, 0-2) at Deering High in Portland.

AMHERST 13, BATES 7: The Jeffs (3-3, 2-2 NESCAC) overcame a 7-6 deficit and pulled away from the Bobcats (4-4, 0-4) at Lewiston.

Rory Sampson and Nick Cosgrove scored two goals apiece to pace the Bobcats.

CONN. COLLEGE 8, BOWDOIN 7: Nathan Fritts had two goals for Bowdoin (3-5) against the Camels (8-0) at Brunswick.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

BOWDOIN 12, CONN. COLLEGE 11: Katie Stewart scored to give the Polar Bears (5-3, 3-1 NESCAC) a 12-9 lead with 1:40 left, and they held off the Camels (3-4, 0-4) at New London, Conn.

Stewart, Liz Clegg and Katie Herter each had three goals and one assist for the Polar Bears.

 

UNE 15, USM 10: The Nor’easters (6-1) scored eight straight goals in the second half to pull away from the Huskies (3-4) at Biddeford.

Mallory Long, Liz DeGrandpre, Jessy Dvorak and Cara Cole each had two goals for UNE. Jessica Martineau and Jessica Knight each had four for the Huskies.

AMHERST 8, BATES 7: The Jeffs (5-2, 3-1 NESCAC) scored two goals less than a minute apart to rally from a 7-6 deficit and beat the Bobcats (2-4, 2-3) at Amherst, Mass.

Molly Radis had three goals for Bates.
