PORTLAND — Geography whizzes are honing their skills ahead of their state’s Geographic Bee testing their knowledge about the world’s countries, oceans and other geographic features.
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and other states are participating in state-level competitions on Friday, with the winners going on to the national competition in Washington, D.C., in May.
The competition is open to students in the fourth through eighth grades. It is organized by the National Geographic Society.
Maine’s bee is being held at the University of Southern Maine in Portland; New Hampshire’s is at Keene State College; and Vermont’s will take place at Middlebury College.
