State game wardens and Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies searched Friday in the area where a missing Standish woman was last seen, walking along the Saco River.

Using dogs in the search, they found no trace of Paula Cote, 55, of 345 River Road, said Chief Deputy Kevin Joyce.

He said officials will consider further searches of the area, but had no plans to search the water.

Cote was last seen by her boyfriend’s son, walking along the road near her house about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office.

She has not used any credit cards or withdrawn any money from her bank account since then, meaning she is unlikely to have gone anywhere voluntarily, said Joyce.

Investigators said there is no indication of a crime, and Cote was not despondent.

Her housemates reported her missing on Wednesday, a day and a half after they had last heard from her, the sheriff’s office said.

Cote was last seen wearing a light blue sweat shirt, blue jeans, and white-and-green sneakers. She is described as 5 feet 2 inches and 125 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair, usually worn in a ponytail.

Investigators said it is uncharacteristic of Cote to have no contact with friends for an extended period of time. Her disappearance is listed in the National Crime Information Center database.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is encouraged to contact investigators at 774-1444, extension 2173, or call 911.
