Gymnasts Ashley Belanger of Biddeford and Isabel Goodwin of York qualified for the Level 9 Eastern Championships to be held Thursday to Sunday in Charleston, W.Va. Both 15-year-olds qualified at a regional meet in Danvers, Mass., with Belanger winning the all-around competition with a score of 36.925 and Goodwin placing fourth at 36.000.

 

Ten high school athletes have been chosen to receive $1,500 college scholarships as part of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame induction and awards banquet on June 13 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.

The scholarship recipients are: Laura Getchell, Gray-New Gloucester; Lucas Hubbard, John Bapst; Harold Lyons, Jonesport-Beals; Jennifer Roberts, Sanford; Liana Rubinoff, Cheverus; Hannah Schuchert, Freeport; Samuel Seekins, Erskine Academy; Vincent Tymoczko, Bucksport; Brandon Wilcox, Bangor Christian; and Rachel Wilkinson, Gorham.

 

Jere Crowley made a hole-in-one on the 15th hole at the Biddeford-Saco Country Club on April 7. He used a pitching wedge for the 128-yard shot, which was witnessed by Billy Gooch, Marcel Viger and Tony Tsomides.

Zack Pelczar scored a hole-in-one on the 17th hole at the Nonesuch River Golf Club on April 18. Tim Pelczar was a witness to the 162-yard shot, which was made using a 6-iron.

 

Keegan Fennessy used a 6-iron to ace the 202-yard fifth hole at Fox Ridge Golf Club on April 21. The shot was witnessed by the pro shop staff. It was his fourth hole-in-one.
