Yarmouth High School quartet Low-Flying Airplanes won the title of Best High School Band in Maine from a field of six finalists Saturday night at the Maine Academy of Modern Music Rock Off finals at Port City Music Hall.

The band consists of lead singer Andrew Gabrielson, who also plays guitar and trombone; Dan Wiggins, who offers back-up vocals and plays a number of instruments including bass and keyboards; Mike Cormier on drums; and Pat Vigue on bass.

The folk-rock band took home $1,000 in cash plus a number of other prizes. These include a gig as the opening act for this Saturday night’s Paranoid Social Club show at Port City Music Hall, and slots on the Maine Academy of Modern Music stage at the Old Port Festival and a Rock on Concerts production in Boston.

The MAMM Rock Off was sponsored by the Maine Academy of Modern Music, the Portland Music Foundation and MaineToday.com.
