OAKLAND — A fatal traffic accident in Oakland took down utility poles Thursday and knocked out electricity for some 4,600 customers.
There was also a smaller power outage reported in the downtown Waterville area late Thursday afternoon.
Central Maine Power Company spokesman John Carroll said utility workers were asked, by police, to wait before repairing the damage, while police investigated the accident scene.
The single vehicle involved in the accident crashed through two utility poles in the approximately 11 a.m. accident, police said.
Carroll said around 4 p.m. CMP crews had started repair work at the accident scene about an hour ago, and electricity should be restored by around 5 p.m.
Customer outages related to passing thunderstorms were reported in municipalities including Waterville, Oakland, Mount Vernon and Readfield.
As of 4:40 p.m., two CMP crews were on the scene of the smaller downtown Waterville outage and, Carroll said, expected to have power restored between 5:30 and 6 p.m.
