A Limington man was indicted on a murder charge Thursday in the shooting death of his wife in March.

Patrick G. Dapolito, 40, of 5 Mike’s Way was indicted by a York County grand jury in the death of 30-year-old Kelly Winslow, whose body was found on Dapolito’s father’s property in the western Maine town of Upton.

During his initial appearance in York County Superior Court on March 29, Dapolito did not speak but his attorney described the shooting as a tragic accident.

Court papers filed to support the murder charge say that on March 16, Dapolito was lying on the floor of his bathroom with his wife, high on cocaine and cradling a gun in his right hand, when the gun fired.

An affidavit filed by the Maine State Police alleges that Dapolito hid Winslow’s body, with a handcuff dangling from her right wrist, in a basement freezer before borrowing his brother’s truck to move the body to Upton.

Dapolito told police that the shooting was an accident, and that he panicked. State police say Dapolito had grown jealous of his wife, accusing her of being unfaithful.
