OLD TOWN — The owners of a Maine lumberyard that was partially destroyed by fire are planning to rebuild as soon as the cause of the fire is determined.

Old Town Deputy Fire Chief Stephen O’Malley says indications are the fire that destroyed the milling operation at Stillwater Lumber was due to electrical or mechanical problems, but officials are awaiting the final determination.

The fire was reported shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Tom Bernard, son of Stillwater Lumber owner Louis “Pete” Bernard, told the Bangor Daily News the mill building and the equipment it housed were a total loss.

He says as soon as the investigation is complete, they’ll tear down the rubble and rebuild.
