BOSTON — A Pakistani man arrested in Maine on an immigration violation during the Times Square attempted bombing investigation will go before a judge this week to argue that he should be allowed to stay in the United States.
A lawyer for Mohammad Shafiq Rahman, of South Portland, said last week that she plans to file paperwork seeking legal residence for Rahman based on his marriage in March to an American woman.
U.S. Immigration Judge Francis Cramer will hold a hearing Wednesday. The government says Rahman, a computer programmer, overstayed his work visa.
Authorities have said Rahman and two men arrested in Massachusetts may have given money to bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad through an informal money transfer network, but may not have known how the money would be used.
