AUGUSTA — Gov. John Baldacci is reminding Mainers to remember the nation’s fallen heroes this Memorial Day.

In his holiday statement, Baldacci says those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice while wearing the uniform of the United States “have kept us safe and protected the values that make our country great. We will never forget their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of those close to them.”

Baldacci also asks Mainers to remember those serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and around the world and says he looks forward to their safe return home.

On Memorial Day, flags will be lowered until noon in Maine in tribute to America’s fallen soldiers. Then the flags will be raised to the top of the staff until sunset in honor of our country’s war heroes.
