A price-tracking website says the average retail price of gasoline in Maine has fallen 4.5 cents per gallon in the past week.

The website, MaineGasPrices.com, said today that prices in Maine were averaging $2.78 per gallon a day earlier. That’s on track with the national average that’s fallen 4.4 cents per gallon in the last week.

On the flip side, prices in Maine on Monday were 23.5 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago.

The average price of home heating oil also fell in the past week. The 4-cent decline marked the fourth week in a row that prices have dropped.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said today that the average statewide cash price for No. 2 heating oil stands at $2.62 per gallon. Southern Maine had the lowest average price of $2.47 a gallon. Eastern and northern sections had the highest average price, $2.75 a gallon.

The average kerosene price was $2.99 a gallon, down 4 cents from a week ago.
