YORK — The Maine Turnpike Authority says good weather, stable gas prices and an improving economy contributed to strong traffic numbers over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Turnpike officials said more than 80,000 vehicles entered the highway northbound at the York toll plaza on Friday and Saturday, a 5 percent increase over the same two days last year.

On Monday, nearly 46,000 vehicles passed through the toll plaza going south as they left the southerly end of the turnpike. That was an 8.2 percent increase over last year.
