Special Olympics Maine is launching an introduction to Special Olympics sports. The free program is open to children ages 21⁄2 to 7 with intellectual disabilities, and their similarly aged siblings. Sessions will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesdays at Robie Gym in Gorham and the East End School and Community Center in Portland, beginning June 16 and running six weeks. Thornton Academy will hold two basketball camps for grade-school boys in July. The first will be an overnight camp July 11-15 for boys entering grades 6 to 8. Campers will stay in Nelson Hall, and the cost is $225. The second will be a day camp July 19-22 for boys entering grades 1 to 5. The cost is $40.
