STONINGTON — Officials in Maine say a Stonington man is dead following a fire that destroyed a garage.

Police say a body believed to be that of 44-year-old Scott Bartlett was found Sunday evening in a garage where he had been living after a fire was reported there at about 4:20 p.m. Sunday.

Maine State Police say two of Bartlett’s sons had visited him earlier Sunday and extinguished a small fire on a mattress in the garage. About an hour later family members looked out to see the garage engulfed in smoke and fire.

Bartlett’s body has been taken to Augusta for autopsy and positive identification. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
