SANFORD – Construction is under way on the newest location of Tractor Supply Co. at 1770 Main St.

The store is expected to open this fall, creating 12 to 17 full-time and part-time jobs. The largest retail farm and ranch supply chain store in the country has been operating in various locations in Maine since 2007.

The facility will be just over 19,000 square feet and will include a sales floor as well as support service space. Outside, a fenced space will be used for storage and display of items such as fencing, sprayers and livestock equipment.

Benchmark Construction of Westbrook has been working on the site since the beginning of April. Construction is expected to be complete by September.

Tractor Supply Co. operates more than 900 stores in 44 states. This will be the 10th Maine location.

The chain’s stores are focused on supplying the lifestyle needs of recreational farmers and ranchers, as well as maintenance needs of those who enjoy the rural lifestyle, tradesmen and small businesses, often located in the suburbs or rural communities. The company carries merchandise for the health, care, growth and containment of horses, livestock and pets, as well as agricultural products, tools and hardware.
