Bishop Richard J. Malone has announced the following assignments for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland:

The Rev. Richard Bertrand, SJ, will become parochial vicar at St. Pius, St. Patrick and St. Joseph churches in Portland effective July 1. He is currently parochial vicar of the Portland peninsula parishes.

The Rev. James Lafontaine, SJ, has been named administrator of St. Joseph, Portland, effective July 1 in addition to his current position as administrator of St. Pius and St. Patrick, Portland.

The Capuchin Fathers will serve as parochial vicars during the transition period at St. Joseph until Aug. 1, when they will leave the diocese.

The Rev. Ralph Boisvert will be retiring July 1 at the age of 70. He was ordained in 1999 and had assignments at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Portland; Holy Spirit Parish, Waterville; St. Augustine and St. Andrew, and St. Michael, Augusta.

The Rev. Raymond Picard will retire on Sept. 1. He was ordained in 1965 and served Sacred Heart, Portland; St. John, Rumford; St. Francis de Sales, Waterville; St. Joseph, Old Town; St. Ignatius, Sanford; St. Ann’s Mission, Princeton; St. Joseph, Sinclair and Holy Family, Daigle; SS Athanasius and John, Rumford; St. Patrick, Newcastle; Our Lady Queen of Peace, Boothbay Harbor; and Sacred Heart, Yarmouth.
