After several months of interior work, the Tides Institute & Museum of Art in Eastport reopens with a reception 5 to 7 p.m. Friday for “Terra Nova (Newfoundland): Contemporary Photographs by Thaddeus Holownia.”

Holownia is head of the department of fine arts at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. He will discuss his work at 7 p.m. July 7.

Also, at 7 p.m. July 15, Donna Cassidy, a University of Southern Maine art professor, will discuss “Looking North: U.S. Artists in Quebec & Atlantic Canada, 1880-1940.” Cassidy is author of “Marsden Harley: Race, Region & Nation.” For information, visit www.tidesinstitute.org or call 853-4047. Coming up

The Theater At Monmouth’s 10th annual music and comedy variety show, “Black Fly Follies,” will begin buzzing at 7:30 p.m. July 3 at Cumston Hall, the theater’s stately home.

This annual party is filled with comedy and music. Actors from the company take the stage to show off their individual talents, some of which may or may not be in evidence during the course of the summer season.

Tickets to the season-opening free-for-all cost $22 for adults and $18 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online at www.theateratmonmouth.org or by calling 933-9999.

“Black Fly Follies” is the final one-night event before the theater’s season of shows in rotating repertory begins July 8 with “The Comedy of Errors.”
