The Maine College Circle recently awarded “Future of Maine” scholarships to 145 elementary and middle-school students across the state.

For 15 years, the Yarmouth nonprofit, in partnership with local businesses and civic groups, has conducted school workshops to promote college aspirations among young students.

Many participants submit a college scholarship application essay, which identifies a college, a major and a career of interest. Selected applicants receive a $100 College Aspirations Scholarship.

This year’s scholarship winners include 15 students at Riverton Community School in Portland. They are: Maryam Hameed, Kiin Mohammed, Gadiid Warsame, Tameka Williams, Joshua Jacob Ying, Camren King, Tatiana Molina, Kason Roeun, Shayla Skinner, Hudson Vaganis, Tim Baker, Helen Bellafiore, Cassidy Bigelman, Shalynn Fielder, and Owen Ganter.
