BATH — Some of the sailors who serve aboard the USS Maine nuclear-powered submarine are celebrating the Fourth of July in their namesake state.

The sailors are spending Independence Day in Bath, the city of ships and home to Navy shipbuilder Bath Iron Works. It’s part of a visit to the Pine Tree State that included side trips to the State House, Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, Brunswick Naval Air Station and Boston.

The sailors will also visit Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland and catch a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game on Monday before returning to Bangor, Wash.
