Visual, performing arts collide, quite on purpose

CREATIVE WORLDS collide on Wednesday when Mayo Street Arts in Portland hosts the Catch-14 happening. Hitting the stage at 8 p.m., singers Vince Nez, Jerusha Robinson and Kit Demos will be joined by visual artists Tim Clorius and Alex Rheault and living statues Marita Kennedy-Castro and Alpha Coyote Kennedy-Castro. Wild and unpredictable art is sure to heat up the room. Should you need to cool off, grab a drink from the cash bar.

A two-day ode to soda? That takes some Moxie

A THROWBACK to soda drinking days of yore, Moxie continues to pack a wallop of flavor into its classic orange cans. Whether or not you can handle the taste, you’ll want to check out this weekend’s Moxie Festival in Lisbon Falls, where you can take part in a 5K road race (7:30 a.m. Saturday), a Moxie recipe contest (11 a.m. Saturday), a bubblegum blowing competition (12:30 p.m. Saturday) and a canoe/kayak race (11 a.m. Sunday), among a slew of other festivities. Are you a diehard drinker of Maine’s official soft drink? Then show off your Moxie in the Chuggin’ Contest (2 p.m. Saturday).
