Police tonight arrested a Brownfield man who they say fled into the woods after shooting his neighbor.

Police arrested Keith Brain, 42,  and charged with him elevated aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of James Walsh, 38.  Both men lived on Moore Road.

Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant said the shooting occurred at 138 Moore Road during a domestic dispute involving the Walsh family.  He said that Brain and other members the Brain family were apparently trying to intercede in the dispute. He said police dispatchers received a call about the shooting at 4:21 p.m.

Walsh, who was shot in the leg and arm, was taken to Bridgton Hospital. Gallant said the injuries are not life threatening.

He said Brain fled into the nearby woods after the shooting. State police and Oxford County deputies searched the woods for Brain. A canine unit also joined the effort.

Gallant said that Brain emerged from the woods at 8:50 p.m. and began walking toward the scene of the shooting when he was encountered by police and arrested.

Brain was taken to the Oxford Country Jail. Gallant said Brain has no criminal record with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

Police investigate shooting in Brownfield

State police and the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a shooting in Brownfield, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police are looking for a man who fled into the woods.
