SOUTH BERWICK – Taylor Landry pitched a four-hitter and scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning as Kennebunk defeated Staples Crossing 7-6 Saturday in the first game of a scheduled American Legion baseball doubleheader.

Game 2 was called off because of rain.

Landry, who struck out 10 and walked six, had three hits and drove in two runs.

Tom Snow added two hits, including a solo home run, for Kennebunk (7-6).

Nick Gardiner and Jack Verrill each hit two-run singles for Staples Crossing (10-3).

LIBBY-MITCHELL 10, CUMBERLAND 0: Chris Bernard went 4 for 4 with four RBI and hit a three-run homer in the first inning to help Libby-Mitchell (10-3) win the opener of a doubleheader at Cumberland.

The second game was rained out.

Lincoln Sanborn homered in the fifth inning, and reliever Jimmy Rouse pitched four scoreless innings with nine strikeouts to earn the win.

SWASEY-TORREY SWEEPS MECHANIC FALLS: Swasey-Torrey (8-5) took advantage of 19 walks to sweep Mechanic Falls (1-12) at Dixfield.

Tyler Gates had a three-run homer and Aaron Fenster- macher struck out 10 as Swasey-Torrey won the opener, 8-6. Matt Brewster was 4 for 4 for Mechanic Falls.

Swasey-Torrey scored eight runs in the second inning of Game 2 and held on for a 10-7 victory. James Moulton closed out the win with a perfect seventh inning.

Gates knocked in five runs on the day.

FAYETTE-STAPLES 7, NOBLE 4: John Pate hit an RBI triple and Alex Newton stroked a two-run double as Fayette-Staples (10-3) took a 3-0 lead in the first and held off Noble (0-10) in a rain-shortened, five-inning game at North Berwick.

Tyler O’Donovan had two hits and two runs for Noble, and Matt Robida had two hits and two RBI.

BONANZA OF SANFORD 4, MASSABESIC 1: David Hamilton retired the first 18 batters he faced and finished with a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk as Bonanza of Sanford (6-7) downed visiting Massabesic.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed because of rain.

Bonanza broke the game open on a three-run double by Robbie Dudzisz in the sixth inning.

Casey Nava had an RBI triple for Massabesic in the seventh.

JUNIOR LEGION

SEACOAST LAW & TITLE 8, SOUTH PORTLAND 6: Mitchell Chipman had three hits and three RBI, and Cody Champagne added three hits and two RBI to pace Seacoast Law & Title (7-2) at South Portland (3-9).

WINDHAM 10, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Joe Francoeur and Mike Nadeau each hit two-run triples as Windham (9-1) took advantage of seven errors to cruise past visiting Gray-New Gloucester.

SMITH-TOBEY SWEEPS FREEPORT MEDICAL: Wade Hunt hit a solo home run to break a 6-6 tie in the top of the eighth inning as Smith-Tobey edged Freeport Medical 7-5 in the opening game at Freeport.

Zach Groat added a two-run homer in the second inning for Smith-Tobey and tied the game with a two-run double in the top of the sixth.

Jared Knighton hit a two-run double in the first inning for Freeport.

Smith-Tobey completed the sweep with an 11-6 win, getting two hits apiece from Groat and Joe Ashowak.

LIBBY-MITCHELL 2, COLE POST 1: Jordan Bathe singled home the winning run in the seventh inning after Ben Wessel tied the game with an RBI single as Libby-Mitchell (4-7) rallied past Cole Post (4-8) in the opening game of a scheduled doubleheader at Scarborough.

Game 2 was rained out.

Kane Corbeau pitched a seven-hitter, struck out two and did not allow a walk for Libby-Mitchell.
