Portland firefighters would see no increase in their base pay for 18 months, according to an agreement between the city and Portland Firefighters Local 740.
Firefighters will be eligible for seniority step increases, however. Also, the city has agreed not to lay off any firefighters through Dec. 31, 2011.
The city and the union agreed on an 18-month extension of the current contract, which expired on June 30, 2010. The contract covers 211 Firefighter/Emergency medical services employees in the Portland Fire Department.
The City Council will vote Monday on whether to approve the agreement.
