AUGUSTA — Fuel price monitors say the average price of gasoline in Maine has dipped slightly over the past week, while the cash price for home heating oil has dropped by a penny a gallon.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said Monday its statewide survey showed the statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil to be $2.58 per gallon, down 1 cent from last week.

Energy Director John Kerry says declining consumer confidence and manufacturing activity are helping to keep crude oil prices down.

The website MaineGasPrices.com pegs today’s average gas price at just under $2.70 per gallon, compared to $2.75 a week ago.
