Maine has received another $571,638 to rebuild the engines on about 17 marine vessels to make them more energy efficient.

The money, awarded by the federal Environmental Protection Agency to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, is in addition to $1.25 million the state already received for engine replacements under the economic stimulus act.

Lynne Cayting, in charge of the program at DEP, said the application period is already closed. About 330 people applied for the rebuilds under the first round, with awards made to about 50 boats.

Cayting said four New Hampshire vessels will receive some of the funds in the newest round of funding.
