The town of Gray has closed Wilkies Beach on Crystal Lake because of elevated levels of the bacteria E. coli.
The beach, which is for residents only, will be closed to swimming, though people can still launch their boats there, the town announced this afternoon.
The elevated readings were taken as part of the town’s regular testing of the water quality there. The town plans to test daily and if levels become acceptable, officials will reopen the beach.
