MANCHESTER, N.H. – A volunteer-based food cooperative in New Hampshire is showing signs of trouble, and may no longer be running.

On the last Saturday of each month, New England SERVE volunteers in 18 communities pick up prepaid food orders and take them to local centers. Members there would pick up their boxes and agree to do community service in exchange.

The New Hampshire Union Leader reports no food arrived Saturday. Organizers say previous deliveries were missing items and one was postponed several times.

Organizers say they can’t reach SERVE officials by phone. They say some vendors were told they weren’t being paid.
