BANGOR — The Bangor police department says its bomb squad detonated a hand grenade found by a local resident in a moving box.

Police say when officers arrived at the residence on Monday evening they determined the grenade was live.

The bomb squad took the device to a remote location where it was detonated safely.

There was no word on how the hand grenade came to be in the box.
