Thornton Academy will hold its parent information night for fall athletics at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 in Garland Auditorium. A guest speaker will discuss current issues in sports medicine. Practices begin Aug. 16 at the following times and locations: cheerleading, 5 to 8 p.m., Linnell Gymnasium; cross country, 5 to 7 p.m., Hill Stadium; field hockey, 4:30 to 6 p.m., new field hockey field; football, 8:30 to 11:15 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., football practice field; golf, 4:30 p.m., Biddeford-Saco Country Club; boys’ soccer, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., soccer practice field; girls’ soccer, 9 to 11 a.m., 5 to 7 p.m., soccer practice field. The Casco Bay Striper Tournament will be held Aug. 21-22, with an opening captain’s reception and raffle at 5 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Royal River Grille House in Yarmouth. The catch-and-release tournament raises funds for the Department of Marine Resources, the Coast Conservation Association of Maine and the Yarmouth Rotary Club. The registration fee is $50 and includes admission to the reception, which will offer food, a cash bar and chance to win prizes. Entry for the 12-and-under tournament is $10.

The tournament has striped bass, bluefish and striped bass fly-fishing divisions and offers cash prizes of up to $1,000.
