Cmdr. Jay A. Gagne recently took command of HSC-85, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron based at Naval Air Station, North Island, San Diego, Calif. Gagne grew up in South Portland and on Cliff Island and graduated from Portland High School in 1988 and Maine Maritime Academy in 1992. He has served six tours of duty in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Gagne is the son of Larry Gagne of Standish and Charlene Oakley of Brentwood, Tenn.

Army Pfc. Kevin McLellan recently graduated from Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga. Earlier this year McLellan completed basic training and Electrical School, both at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. He is the son of Brian and Catherine McLellan and is a 2008 graduate of Scarborough High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Jacob D. Blake, son of Carol and Leo Blake of Brunswick, recently graduated from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Blake received an early promotion to his current rank for outstanding performance during training. He is a 2008 graduate of Brunswick High School.

Army Pfc. Kelly M. Landry has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of Stacy Lambert-Batten of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Christopher Landry of Portland. Landry is a 2009 graduate of Sacopee Valley High School, Hiram.
