• Sunday River will host the Tough Mountain Challenge on Aug. 28. The 5-kilometer event takes natural and man-made obstacles found only at Sunday River and pits them against athletes to test physical and mental endurance.

The course takes racers from the bottom of the South Ridge base area up to the bottom of Spruce Peak, then down through the Barker base area before returning though the Gates of Hell to South Ridge. While the distance is relatively short, the combination of obstacles is lengthy and challenging.

Registration is $29 and includes lunch. Registration is open to athletes over the age of 18.

Forms are available to download at www.sundayriver.com, or racers can sign up the day of the race. For more information call 824-3000 or visit www.sundayriver.com.
