SKOWHEGAN — Large crowds are expected when the oldest agricultural fair in Maine opens its doors for 10 days of rides, music, animal exhibits, demolition derbies, harness racing and other entertainment.

The 192nd annual Skowhegan State Fair kicks off today at the Skowhegan State Fairgrounds. The fair is billed as the nation’s longest continuously operating agricultural fair.

Fair officials say last year’s attendance came in at about 60,000, with a single-day record of 12,000 people coming through the gates on opening day.
