Membership at Maine credit unions grew in the first half of the year, according to a release from the Maine Credit Union League put out this morning.

Membership grew 1 percent, according to the release, with an increase of almost 4,000 members since the start of the year. That brings the total of credit union members in Maine to 611,473. Last year at this time, the membership had grown by 3,200, finishing the year at 607,556.

The league said in the first half of the year, assets at Maine credit unions increased 3 percent – almost $153 million. And loans increased by 1 percent, or $21.5 million, the release said.
