BRUNSWICK — A fire on a transmission pole Monday afternoon knocked out electricity to thousands of customers in four midcoast towns.
After the outage occurred about 3:30 p.m., more than 7,000 customers in Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell and Topsham were without electricity.
10:30 Monday night, more than 5,600 customers of Central Maine Power Co. were still without power.
The transmission pole, off River Road near Interstate 295, had to be replaced. CMP did not know Monday night what caused the fire.
The utility said power to the affected towns should be restored sometime early this morning.
