PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs hit five home runs, including three in the seventh inning, to overcome a 6-0 deficit and beat the Altoona Curve 9-8 this afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Anthony Rizzo hit two of the home runs, including a grand slam in the seventh inning. Rizzo now has 18 home runs for the Sea Dogs this season.

Nate Spears, Ryan Lavarnway and Luis Exposito also homered for Portland.

Ryne Lawson (6-5) picked up the win with three innings of one-hit, shutout relief, after the Curve scored six against starter Kyle Weiland.

With Portland down 6-3 in the seventh, Lavarnway started the inning with a home run off the Hannaford sign above the Maine Monster left field wall.

The Sea Dogs then loaded the bases with two outs and Rizzo hit a fastball to the opposite field, clearing the message board in left center, for an 8-6 lead. Exposito followed with a needed insurance run, on his homer over the Monster.

The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field Friday night at 7 p.m. to face the Trenton Thunder.
