AUGUSTA — Maine Attorney General Janet Mills is warning of a new credit card scam that’s targeting some residents.
Southern Maine’s PeoplesChoice Credit Union reports that scammers have been claiming to be from “PeoplesChoice Saving” and offering a credit card with a $2,000 line of credit.
The callers ask for payments of $200 and the victims’ bank account information so they can immediately withdraw the money.
PeoplesChoice Credit Union says there have been 25 calls over the past three weeks from people who have been contacted by the scammers. PeoplesChoice Credit Union says it has nothing to do with the bogus offer.
Mills says advance fee credit card scams are fraudulent and prey on people who desperately need a line of credit.
