AUGUSTA — The Maine State Council of the Society for Human Resources Management has named its 40 best places to work in the state.

The companies winning the first, second and third place rankings in the small/medium company and large company categories will be announced at an awards banquet held Oct. 12 at the Ramada Conference Center in Lewiston.

The assessment, administered by the Best Companies Group, evaluated employee policies and procedures and responses from employees. The program also makes recommendations for improvement to the companies.
