WORKERS APPLIED THE base coat of paint to the third tank in the Art All Around project Wednesday at the Sprague Energy tank farm in South Portland. It will take about a month to complete the tank, which will be clearly visible from the Veterans Memorial Bridge. Sponsored by the Portland-based Maine Center for Creativity, the project will be the largest public art painting in the world after the fourth tank is completed. In all, the project will involve painting eight complete tanks and eight tank tops. On Wednesday, Jean Maginnis, executive director of the Maine Center for Creativity, announced that the organization had received an anonymous $100,000 challenge grant. The center has until Sept. 30 to match the grant. If the challenge is met, the center will have raised $855,000 toward its goal of $1.4 million. Gordon Chibroski/Staff Photographer
