LEWISTON — Two business organizations in Maine are launching a contest in hopes of luring young entrepreneurs back to the twin cities of Lewiston and Auburn.

The Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council and the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce say local companies are contributing more than $100,000 in cash and in-kind services to the most promising startup company that’s willing to come back home to set up shop.

Entries will be screened by a committee of business and banking professionals, and there’ll be an electronic vote akin to American Idol voting in January.

Laura Davis, a partner at Rinck Advertising, says too many native sons and daughters leave for college and never return. The goal is to get some of them back, and to give them the tools for their businesses to succeed.
