The Portland Pirates will hold auditions Sunday to identify candidates for their Sun Tan City Ice Girls team, as well as individuals to perform as mascots Crackers and Salty Pete during games and at public appearances.

“We just want to make sure we scan the market, particularly on the ice girls’ side of it, to see who is out there and wants to do something like this,” said the Pirates’ managing owner/CEO, Brian Petrovek.

Auditions will be at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Portland Ice Arena.

Candidates for the ice team must commit to a 40-game home schedule as well as several non-game night appearances. The ability to skate is preferred, as is previous dancing, cheerleading and/or theater experience.

“(Skating is) something we’re preferring as an attribute, but it’s not a requirement,” Petrovek said. “If we can get one or two girls who feel comfortable on skates, we’ll put them on the ice as part of our presentation.”

Candidates must be energetic, willing to interact with fans, and be comfortable hosting and assisting with in-game presentations on camera and a microphone in front of large crowds.

Candidates to be the team’s mascots must be able to skate, and be energetic and willing to interact with fans.
