POLAND – Derek Roberts rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns and also threw a scoring pass Saturday as Cape Elizabeth, the defending Western Class B champion, opened with a 25-0 victory against Poland.

Jack Barber gained 113 yards for the Capers.

Cape Elizabeth opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 10-yard run by Roberts, then extended the lead to 13-0 when Roberts scored on a 12-yard run in the second.

The Capers put the game out of reach with a pair of third-quarter touchdowns — a 29-yard run by Barber and a 10-yard pass from Roberts to Kyle Danielson.

Cape was led defensively by Barber and Jack McDonald with seven tackles apiece.

DIRIGO 25, FREEPORT 12: Spencer Ross scored a pair of touchdowns, and Ben Holmes rushed for one touchdown and threw for another as the Cougars won at Freeport.

Freeport took a 6-0 lead when Luke Lamagna raced 70 yards on the opening play.

Dirigo rallied to take a 13-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, on a 6-yard run by Ross and a 75-yard pass from Holmes to Ross.

Holmes added a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Justin Dowland’s 3-yard run in the fourth made it 25-6.

Freeport got its final touchdown on a 60-yard run by Lamagna, who finished with 174 yards on 11 carries.

LISBON 28, OAK HILL 0: Tobey Harrington rushed for 107 yards and Luke Caron threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Greyhounds at Lisbon Falls.

Caron completed 3 of 5 passes for 82 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown pass to Cam Graft in the first quarter and a 38-yard strike to Josh Pomerleau in the third.

Defensive ends Zach Green and John Craft combined for four sacks.

TRAIP ACADEMY 13, MARANACOOK 8: Tyler Nay ran 56 yards for a touchdown and quarterback Matt Clifford found Brian Goda for a second score as Traip Academy won at Kittery.

Nay and Clifford also were instrumental on defense. Nay, at linebacker, was the Rangers’ leading tackler with 12. Clifford intercepted a pass with 25 seconds left, and Traip ran out the clock.

CAMDEN HILLS 60, NOKOMIS 28: Camden Hills, in its second varsity season, earned its first football victory, winning an opener at Rockport.

Quarterback Collin Downs and running back Jacob Powers led the Windjammers.

Jake Welch scored three touchdowns for Nokomis, two rushing and one on a pass from Nathan Michaud. Welch also scored a 2-point conversion. Dan Tucker added a touchdown on an option run for the Warriors.

WATERVILLE 41, MORSE 14: The Panthers rushed for 416 yards and six touchdowns to win an opener at Waterville.

Waterville’s offensive line of Mike O’Neil, Mike Bailey, Ivan Huerfano, Nick Margitza and Kyle Dulley took little time to establish its dominance. The Panthers rushed for 138 yards in the first quarter, including a 73-yard TD run by Aaron Saucier to take a 13-6 lead.

Saucier finished the first quarter with 90 yards and added 80 in the second on his way to a 216-yard, three-touchdown day. He left in the third quarter with a right ankle injury and didn’t return.

Fullback J.T. Whitten rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns for Waterville. He also left in the fourth quarter with an injury to his right wrist.
