WESTBROOK – Nemanja Kaurin scored from 19 yards on a free kick late in the first half Saturday, and South Portland went on to a 1-0 victory against Westbrook in a Southern Maine Activities Association schoolboy soccer opener.

Ben Burkey stopped seven shots to record the shutout. Westbrook keeper Austin Watts finished with three saves.

SANFORD 1, DEERING 0: Alex Wall scored off a throw-in from Andrew Guillemette with 4:52 left to lift the Redskins in an opener at Sanford.

Cody McFarland stopped five shots for the shutout. Deering keeper Jamie Gullbrand also finished with five saves.

MARSHWOOD 2, KENNEBUNK 1: T.J. Osborne scored on a free kick with 27 minutes left to lift the Hawks in an opener at South Berwick.

Marshwood opened the scoring on a goal by Tyler Lammers with 2:34 left in the first half.

Harrison Hall tied the game early in the second half.

BRUNSWICK 4, CONY 0: Konnor Scarponi and Mitch Black scored two goals apiece — all in the first half — as the Dragons won an opener at Brunswick.

Scarponi scored the first goal at 29:38 and made it 2-0 five minutes later, assisted by Will Bann. After Black scored on a penalty kick for a 3-0 lead, Bann assisted Black on the final goal with 2:15 left in the half.

Cony goalie Dan Couverette made 10 saves. Brunswick got two saves from Seth Holmblad in the first half and one from Zack Lavoie in the second.

ERSKINE ACADEMY 1, MT. ARARAT 1: Caleb Grady scored with 1:21 left in regulation to help Erskine Academy earn a tie in an opener at Topsham.

Derek Smith took a shot on goal that hit off Brian Potter. The ball then landed in front of the Mt. Ararat net, where Grady kicked it in with his heel as he was facing away from keeper Nate Bryant.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

YARMOUTH 2, FREEPORT 1: Devin Simsarian redirected a cross from Olivia Conrad in the second half to lift the Clippers in an opener at Freeport.

Danielle Torres drilled a 25-yard shot into the upper right corner 15 minutes into the match to give the Clippers an early lead.

DEERING 2, SANFORD 0: Alexis Elowitch and Cole Spike scored first-half goals for the Rams in an opener at Sanford.

Elowitch scored off a through pass from Alexis Sivovlos, who also set up Spike’s goal on a long-range shot.

FIELD HOCKEY

ROCKLAND 3, OAK HILL 0: Allison Ward scored two minutes into the game on a penalty stroke and Rockland went on to win an opener at home.

Sarah Lacroix stopped 41 shots for Oak Hill.
