Michael Brennan, a former state senator and representative from Portland, was taken to the hospital following a crash on Interstate 295 in Portland.

Brennan, 57, was driving a Honda south on the interstate when he lost control at about noon near Tukey’s Bridge. The car hit guard rails, spun around and was hit by a pickup truck towing a minivan, state police said.

Brennan was pinned inside his car for a time and once freed, was taken to Maine Medical Center. He checked out of the hospital Friday afternoon with a broken rib, his wife, Joan Martay, said.

The crash remains under investigation.
